Privacy policy

A short, plain-English description of what MapVista does and does not collect.

MapVista is a static-feeling, server-rendered website. We don't ask you to log in, we don't run a shopping cart, and we don't operate a social network. The only personal data the site can plausibly observe is what every web server sees: your IP address, the page you requested, the page you came from, and the user-agent string your browser advertises. We use this only to operate the site, debug problems, and produce aggregate traffic reports.

Cookies

MapVista does not set any first-party tracking cookies. We may use a session cookie for technical purposes (for example, remembering whether you've dismissed a banner), and these are scoped to the current browser session and not shared with third parties.

Advertising

MapVista may display advertising via third-party ad networks. Ad networks typically set their own cookies and may collect aggregated information about how visitors interact with their ads. You can read those networks' privacy policies for the specifics, and you can opt out of personalised advertising via your browser's privacy settings or via industry opt-out tools. Ad slots on this site are clearly labelled with comment markers in the page source.

Analytics

If we use any analytics service, it will be limited to aggregate traffic measurement (page views, referrer counts, country-level geolocation) without individual fingerprinting. We do not sell visitor data.

Children

MapVista is suitable for general audiences, including school-age readers researching geography. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, and we do not target advertising at children.

Updates

If this policy changes, the updated version will appear at this URL with a revised effective date. There is no email list to notify because we do not collect email addresses.
